Earlier this year, The Fox and Hounds at West Witton received the CAMRA Pub of the Year 2013 award from the N.W Yorkshire CAMRA Branch. The other contenders on the podium were The Ralph Fitz Randal at Richmond and The Cover Bridge Inn at East Witton.

Andrew Blackburn, the landlord of The Fox, was particularly pleased to receive this accolade as he is an active member of CAMRA and is passionate about good quality real ale. You can always find a decent beer at the pub, with Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company, Theakston’s Brewery and Black Sheep Brewery being well represented on a regular basis. Guest beers are sourced from some of the finest breweries around, with notable mentions including Salamander Brewery in Bradford and Wensleydale Brewery at Bellerby.
Uncharacteristically for a CAMRA pub, The Fox is not a quiet establishment, and has a jukebox that some people consider the best they’ve ever encountered. The jukebox has an eclectic mix of music, with songs from the ‘50s and ‘60s up to the present day, encompassing most of the classic songs of each era.
Pub games and sports are popular at The Fox, with teams competing in local darts, dominoes and quoits leagues, as well as there being several open games each year. There is also a quiz every other Friday night, with proceeds going to the LVA Bike Ride fund.
As well as real ale, The Fox and Hounds serves good traditional pub food on a daily basis.
